ECU remapping overview

With the potential to boost power and torque by a whopping 30 percent, ECU remapping is easily the best pound-for-pound performance modification you can carry out on your vehicle – way ahead of the likes of uprated intercoolers, intake systems and exhaust systems in terms of HP per ££

The process takes around 1 - 2 hours which includes pre diagnostic check and datalogging/testing to ensure the vehicle is performing as it should with the new tuned software.

Most vehicles can be remapped directly through the OBD port without the need to remove the ECU but as new cars are released the manufacturers are making it harder for tuners to access the ECU data via the OBD and the only options is for the ECU to be removed and bench flashed.

The results of performance remapping are impressive. A small petrol turbo engine like the 1.0 ecoboost 100hp found in the FORD range of cars can see an additional 45hp and 70nm of torque, while a larger turbo petrol engine like the 2.5 TFSI found in the latest generation Audi RS3 can see an additional 70hp and 140nm of torque (or even more). And lets not forget about the turbo-diesel crew, such as a F30 BMW 330d, then you could benefit an additional 52hp and 90nm of torque  !!

These performance increases are made by altering different map areas within the ECU calibration, such as Injection correction, target Lambda, timing advance, boost pressure control, torque limiters , torque request and a whole host of other vital areas  – all these changes are made within safe parameters of the engines limitations. These changes translate to drastically improved response & acceleration throughout the rev range resulting in effortless performance.

Performance Remapping is by far our most popular service. Mtune has remapped a variety of vehicles including cars & vans for customers who wanted to increase there vehicles performance and driveability.

Mtune specialise in both diesel and petrol tuning, on forced induction and naturally aspirated vehicles, and has seen first-hand how a performance remap can completely transform the customer's driving experience.

Mtune only operates with genuine licenced ecu tuning tools so you can rest assured your vehicle is in safe hands.

Custom & Generic Facts

There is great confusion about custom and generic files. Some of our more minor competitors use the word “custom” to describe what they offer without actually knowing what it means… so here are the definitions:

A generic file is one that has a tried and tested calibration created by an experienced file writer who understands the ecu strategy and has tested the calibration on the Road & Dyno before releasing it to the public , there is no need to change it, and it will have been successfully applied to thousands of vehicles with the same ecu and software version. This file only requires to be flashed to the vehicles ECU and datalogged to ensure the vehicle is performing correctly with no need for any revisions or adjustments.

A custom file requires either a Dyno or extensive road datalogging and multiple revisions to the calibration to custom tune to specific hardware upgrades , custom tuning is only necessary when vehicles are running hardware modifications above normal stage 2 requirements , for example hybrid turbos , larger injectors , uprated fuel systems , engine changes such as cams, big valved cylinder heads and so on. Custom tuning takes hours and is a specialised process that requires very expensive master tools and editing software that should be reflected in the price ,many companies claim to offer "custom tuning no generic files" but the reality of it is they don't actually understand the tuning process and are misrepresenting the term , don't be mislead by this marketing ploy !

Mtune will never claim to offer "custom tuning"  we offer tried and tested tuning files.
